because mommies-to-be need care too...
Chiropractic is a form of medicine concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders affecting the neuromusculoskeletal (NMSK) system. It is a hands-on, non-invasive and medicine-free practice that safely and effectively relieves pain
and discomfort and restores normal function to the NMSK system.
WHY SHOULD MOMMIES-TO-BE SEE A CHIROPRACTOR?
The Treatment of Neuromusculoskeletal (NMSK) Conditions
During pregnancy your body undergoes many postural changes which lead to pain and dysfunction. The head and neck tilt forward, the shoulders are more rounded, the mid-back and lower back tilt backward, the pelvis tilts forward, the knees lock backward and the arches of the feet are flatten.
Your body also undergoes hormonal changes (relaxin is released) which increase mobility and flexibility of the body to accommodate for your growing baby and to prepare the body for the birth process. As a result, the body becomes laxer and unstable which leads to additional tissue strain (especially the ligaments of the sacroliliac joints, pubic symphysis and round ligaments of the uterus).
Typical signs and symptoms include:
- Headaches
- Neck pain
- Shoulder blade pain
- Low back pain
- Arm and wrist pain
- Hip, knee and ankle pain
For an Easier and more Comfortable Birth
A restricted pelvis may cause the misposition of your baby (occipito-posterior, transeverse or complete frank or footling breech positions, etc.) which does not allow your baby to move into the optimal downward facing position. A restricted pelvis may not dilate properly. These changes make the delivery process more difficult and could lead to a longer and more complicated birth or in some cases affect the ability to have a natural non-invasive birth.
To Reduce Intrauterine Constraint
A restricted pelvis cannot move properly and this can limit the amount of space available for your growing baby. When an external force obstructs your baby’s normal movements it is referred to as intrauterine constraint. The latter may lead to birth defects (plagiocephaly, torticollis, club feet, hip dysplasia, etc.)
